What is Embroidery?

Embroidery is the art of decorating fabric or other materials with needle and thread or yarn. It involves creating designs, patterns, and images on the fabric surface, often incorporating techniques like stitches, beading, sequins, and other embellishments. Embroidery can be done by hand or machine and includes a wide variety of styles, such as:

  • Cross-stitch: Using X-shaped stitches to form a design, often on gridded fabric.
  • Satin stitch: Filling shapes with smooth, parallel stitches for a polished effect.
  • Chain stitch: Creating linked stitches that resemble chains for outlines or decorative patterns.
  • Appliqué: Adding pieces of fabric to create dimensional designs, often secured with embroidery.

Embroidery is used in fashion, home décor, and art to add detail and texture to items like clothing, linens, and wall hangings, and it has a rich history worldwide, with unique styles in different cultures.
